Planning Process
Tuesday 1st November 2016
I formed a group with Paddy and Joelle and we began to brainstorm general ideas about thrillers. The brief was to create a conversation which included the typical camera, editing, sound, and mise-en-scene found in the thriller genre. Here's what we came up with:
As well as this, we thought of what the conversation scene could include in more detail e.g.
- Shot-reverse-shot
- This would also include close-ups
- Cross cutting
- Over the shoulder shot
- Low-key lighting
- Costumes
- Non-diegetic music
- Could also include 'crawling' sounds, perhaps like an earthquake or a low drone like that of a helicopter.
After this, we drew up a storyboard (this can be found below) of the events that will occur during our scene. We concluded that the plot behind it was that a business woman had captured a client's husband and is holding him for ransom while the audience is continually reminded that the husband is locked up inside a room (with his hands and feet tied up) through the series of static shots which flash onto the screen. A key can also be found on the top right-hand corner in which we put the types of camera angles and edits we can use. Dialogue is included within the speech bubbles and the type of shot is found in the bottom right-hand corner if possible. This whole process took around an hour to complete.
