Analysing opening sequences of Thrillers- Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies

Harry Hook (1990)

Lord of the Flies is a film which I have chosen to analyse in a commentated video format which is just on the left. At the end, there is also a commentary which isn't over the extract, but of me speaking about the context of the film as I have done so at the beginning of each written analysis. Below I talk about the process of making the video itself.

1. I made the video simply using Windows Movie Maker. I recorded my commentary (which would go over the top of the extract) separately at first but soon realised that the program I was using simply wouldn't let me input the sound in a way in which I wanted it. To overcome this, I split the extract up into the parts which I was due to speak about and took screenshots which I then inserted between the trims, this meant that the screen would pause so I can insert commentary.

2. Having split the video, I was able to remove sounds from the parts that speaking was necessary in order for my voice to be heard when I input the recording. I then began recording sound using the 'record narration' tool, splitting the sound between my voice and the sequence music where necessary.

3. Finally, I added captions to the points when the sequence was playing at which times I didn't make a voice commentary as I was analysing sound and my voice would've interrupted what was playing.
