Sound

In this post, I am going to explain the sound which will be included in our opening sequence. It has become apparent to us that speech should be kept to a minimum due to our audience research, however, due to the nature of our narrative, Ed and I feel that the dialogue is as important a part as the camera work, editing and mise-en-scene, therefore we've decided to take some aspects of sound out and include others (as explained in the points below)

Some complications may include the fact that if we were to record sound in different environments, we will have to be careful to crete the effect of similar ambient sounds, or overlay the recording of ambient sound carefully.

Narration

Ed and I will need to create a seperate script for the narrtion which is included in our opening sequence so we are able to put the audio over the video. As well as this, we will also be able to create two, to three other versions if needs be since Ed is going to be the actor who's talking.

Dialogue

The dialogue will be rocrded on two devices; the camera, and a microphone so if the audio recorded on the video isn't successful, we can insert clearer audio into the opening sequence during the diting process without having to fiddle around with the syncing of it.

There will aslo be minimal dialogue, as requested in our audience research, therefore any dialogue we do have can be recorded quickly or again if needs be. The actors we've selected are also able to feel comfortable with speaking in our opening sequence.

Furthermore, Andras (the son's father) will be recorded seperatly, likely by myself, for which I will be responsible for scripting as it requires Hungarian speech. This of course also has it's complications such as translation in subtitles which we will include.

Music

We do not plan to include any music, however, if we do, further research into the genres of music suitable will be presented in a seperate post.

Ambient Sound

Ed and I have decided that ambient sound should be recorded seperately (as well as any sound caught on video) so that if need be, we have 'spare' ambient sound to insert into necessary places in our opening sequence. This is due to my past experience in the prelim task which Joelle, Paddy and I created. We came across a fault in the sound, and therefore could have used with a clearer sound recording, however, we had run out of time to produce anymore, therefore, we had to make do and shuffle around with the sound affects etc. To prevent this, we will record sound seperatly which will include:
  • Shuffling (feet, muttering, etc)
  • Nature (birds, russling trees, wind, etc)
  • Cars/ freight moving due to train depot in the area
